The Conflict between Power and Control
The Fermi Paradox asks: "If the universe is old and vast, where are all the aliens?"
One answer is The Great Filter: Civilizations destroy themselves before they can colonize the stars.
The Mechanism: A civilization invents High-Energy Tools (Nuclear Weapons, AI, Bio-engineering) before it invents the social wisdom to manage them.
$T$ (Technology): The power to Act. This grows Exponentially (Moore’s Law).
$V$ (Verification/Wisdom): The capacity to predict and restrain safety. This grows Linearly (Politics, Biology).
The Danger Zone: The gap where $Power > Wisdom$.
This is a race condition.
If you have a button that can blow up the world ($Z_{high}$), and your wisdom is low ($E_{low}$), the probability of accidental self-termination approaches 1 over time.
Civilization A: Focuses purely on $Z$ (Tech). Result: Runs off the cliff.
Civilization B: Invests heavily in $E$ (Institutions, Treaties, Safety). Result: Survives.
Status: SYSTEM CRITICAL.
We are currently inside the Filter. We have god-like technology and medieval institutions.
The Only Path: We must artificially boost the "Price of Action." We need Governance that makes dangerous actions hard, and Wisdom that makes safe actions cheap.
Wisdom Must Scale with Power.
Kalionism scales from a single robot to a galactic civilization. The rule is constant: Your specific power ($Z$) must never exceed your specific safety ($E$).
Surviving the Great Filter isn't about better tech; it's about better constraints. The civilizations that survive are the ones that learn to say "No" to their own worst impulses.
